Cleaning Your Instrument & Maintenance Tips
BRASS INSTRUMENTS:
1. Give your instrument a bath in warm water (not hot) and a small amount of dish soap! Take all valves and slides out! Don't forget to re-grease and re-oil once everything is dry.
2. Make sure your slides can move; especially your main tuning slide. If doesn't move, then something is wrong!
3. Scrub your mouthpiece with a soft toothbrush or mouthpiece brush. Clean it with dish soap or mouthwash.
WOODWIND INSTRUMENTS:
1. Use your cleaning clothe to wipe away the moisture in your instrument.
2. Make sure your corks are greased.
3. If there is white gunk on your mouthpiece, it's time to clean it. Scrub it with a mouthpiece brush or soft toothbrush.
EVERYONE: Plan to send your instrument in at least 1x year. If something is loose or not moving, send it in for repair. All brass instruments should be flushed out every year. Woodwind instruments need to be aligned. USE YOUR MAINTENANCE PLAN. Also, keep the maintenance plan even if you have paid off the instrument. Instrument maintenance is very important.
